In case you missed it!…..
Making Safeguarding Personal is an OSAB priority for the year. Did you know Oldham Safeguarding Adults Board (OSAB) have developed an essential 7-Minute Briefing about Making Safeguarding Personal? Partner agencies fed back that 'Making Safeguarding Personal' is seen as 'social work language' and therefore this briefing was written with all agencies in mind because Making Safeguarding Personal should not simply be seen in the context of formal safeguarding activity, but in the whole spectrum of partner agency activity working with adults.
7-Minute Briefings are based on research which suggests that seven minutes is an ideal time span in which to concentrate and learn. Learning for 7 minutes is manageable in most services and often more memorable as it is necessarily brief and not clouded by other issues and pressures. These short, safeguarding snapshots can be a helpful way to support team learning. Please discuss this briefing within your teams, complete the OSAB 7-Minute Briefing Team Discussion Feedback Form to record and evidence how you have used the briefing and send a copy to OSAB.

0-19 service supporting families during the summer holidays
During the school holidays, colleagues from Oldham's Northern Care Alliance 0-19 Service have been out in local communities engaging with children, young people and families, providing advice, information, and support on a range of public health topics.
The team has been promoting key health messages, including oral health, emotional wellbeing, sleep, puberty, vaping awareness and behaviour support, helping families access information and guidance at a time and place that is convenient for them.
This proactive outreach supports the OSCP Neglect Priority by ensuring families receive early help, information and support to meet children's health, development and wellbeing needs. By strengthening relationships with families and increasing access to preventative services, partners can help address issues early and reduce the impact of neglect on children and young people.
Thank you to colleagues from the 0-19 Service for their continued commitment to supporting children, young people and families across Oldham.

Supporting young people through results day
Results Day can be an exciting but anxious time for many young people and their families. To help parents, carers and professionals provide the right support, guidance is available on what to expect on results day and the options available for young people as they move into further education, training, or employment. Results Days:
- Year 13 A Level and T Level Results Day: Thursday 13 August
- Year 11 GCSE Results Day: Thursday 20 August
Access guidance on the OSCP website. The guidance includes practical information on supporting young people with their next steps, helping them navigate what can be a significant transition in their education journey.
Professionals are encouraged to use these resources themselves and share them with parents and carers who may benefit from additional support during this period.

So-called honour-based violence and abuse training
So-Called Honour-Based Violence and Abuse training is delivered by members of Oldham’s Independent Domestic Violence Advisory (IDVA) team and aims to equip practitioners with enhanced knowledge and skills to identify and respond appropriately to so called ‘honour’-based abuse. This course provides an understanding of what constitutes So Called Honour Based Violence and Forced Marriage. The session focuses on how best to offer help and support and the responsibilities of practitioners within their own roles, highlighting national and local services who can offer support, including the use of forced marriage protection orders and the one chance rule. The course will look at which communities are affected with an overview of the local picture.
The course will be delivered in person at 9:30-16:00 on Monday 30 November 2026, at Rock Street Resource Centre, Rock Street, Oldham OL1 3UJ.

New OSCP 7-minute briefing: thematic review of serious youth violence
OSCP has published a 7-Minute briefing summarising the learning from a recent Child Safeguarding Practice Review (CSPR) into two serious youth violence incidents involving three adolescent boys in Oldham.
The review highlights the importance of recognising serious youth violence as a safeguarding issue and the need for early, coordinated and trauma-informed responses to vulnerable adolescents.
In response to the findings, Serious Youth Violence is being strengthened as a strategic safeguarding priority within OSCP, with work underway to improve multi-agency coordination, data sharing, trauma-informed practice, and support for vulnerable young people.
OSCP encourage all practitioners to read the briefing and reflect on how the learning can be applied within their own practice.
