OASIS Greater Manchester - encounter, PACS and the navigator project

Oasis Greater Manchester (GM) are doing some fantastic work with children, young people, and their families across GM. They offer a range of support including an online course for parents called Encounter, an 8-week therapeutic offer based on the principles of non-violent resistance (NVR), which explores ‘connection before correction’ and has proven to be effective where a child has anxiety, ADHD, or Autism. NVR is an innovative form of systemic family intervention, which has been developed for aggressive, violent, controlling and self-destructive behaviour in young people. This is a fantastic therapeutic programme that is especially of benefit to parents who are struggling to maintain boundaries and high parental presence in the home. The course is free and is delivered by trained practitioners.

Oasis GM also offers the Navigator Project  which is a youth led violence reduction project open to young people aged 10-25 years old that live or attend school in GM that are impacted by violence.

For more information, please visit the Oasis GM websitePlease share with your networks of parents and carers, as appropriate.

Free virtual sessions during national hoarding awareness week (12-16 May 2025)

Learn how to better support individuals with hoarding behaviours. OSAB and Clouds End CIC are offering free training and seminars to educate practitioners with the correct information around hoarding throughout National Hoarding Awareness Week.

One of the main aims of the awareness campaign is to highlight the need for training for practitioners who support clients with the condition, get them to understand that by being educated on what hoarding behaviours are, how they affects those with them and how to appropriately offer support, it will allow for better outcomes that can last long term for both the client and the practitioner.

National referral mechanism (NRM) referral form updates - prompt sheet and guidance

Following consultation with a range of stakeholders, the Home Office has updated the NRM referral form for potential victims of modern slavery. Key improvements include the ability to attach documents within the form, updated prompt sheets for First Responders, improved and more trauma-informed language, additional prompts to support information gathering across all exploitation types, and new fields to help identify linked or duplicate cases, as well as those still in exploitative situations.

These updates aim to improve the quality of referrals, support more informed decision-making, and ensure the form better reflects the experiences of potential victims in a trauma-informed way.

Reporting threats of arson to Greater Manchester Police

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) work with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to protect residents who are at risk of arson in their homes. GMFRS do this by ‘target hardening’ the home to reduce the potential risk and to protect householders and the property, in the event of an attack. Their interventions can include fitting additional smoke detection, fitting a metal letter box cover and delivering a Home Fire Safety Assessment.

Support your service users to report any known or suspected threats of arson to GMP immediately and they will decide whether to contact GMFRS to support the target hardening process.
