New OSAB 7-minute briefing: young carer's assessments
Oldham Safeguarding Adults Board (OSAB) are pleased to share an essential 7-Minute Briefing about Young Carer's Assessments. The briefing explains who young carers are; the impact and positive aspects of the role; and what a young carer's assessment is, including how to request one in Oldham.
7-Minute Briefings are based on research which suggests that seven minutes is an ideal time span in which to concentrate and learn. Learning for 7 minutes is manageable in most services and often more memorable as it is necessarily brief and not clouded by other issues and pressures. These short, safeguarding snapshots can be a helpful way to support team learning.

International day of older people 2025 – talking about self harm and older people
The 'Don't Brush It Under the Carpet' campaign
in Greater Manchester aimed to encourage conversation and challenge stigma about older people’s mental health difficulties. Partners including the Mature Minds Matter lived experience group, collaborated to create information booklets for older people and carers and loved ones providing information about self-harm. These booklets were launched on 1 October 2025, International Day of Older People, to continue to raise awareness of the opportunities and challenges faced by ageing populations, and to inform and mobilise the wider community to address difficulties faced by older people.
These booklets contain information about what is meant by self-harm, how this might look different for older people, reasons it might be difficult to talk about self-harm and where people can get support. The booklet for professional carers and loved ones also gives information on how to talk to older people about self-harm.
These information booklets are available to download for free on the Shine a Light on Suicide website

Public protection is everyone’s business, and the Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) set out the statutory framework to which all public sector agencies have a Duty to Cooperate when dealing with individuals convicted of the most serious offences. Regardless of your role, if someone you are working with is associated to a MAPPA registered individual or they are registered themselves, you may be called upon to contribute to the MAPPA process.
Delivered by Law Enforcement specialists from the Probation Service, a
90 minute 'bitesize' training session will take place at 10:00-12:00 on 28 October 2025, via Microsoft Teams, for all safeguarding professionals, managers and practitioners from across the multi-agency spectrum who work with individuals convicted of serious crimes and living in Oldham.
